Yesterday, February 14, 2017, DROPPS hosted the South Texas Coastal Zone Area Committee Meeting at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas. These meetings are held quarterly for the response community to update and discuss response plans, case studies of recent spills, overviews of upcoming and past trainings, and more. Yesterday's meeting featured talks from the Texas General Land Office , CITGO, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi and the National Strike Force (USCG). Dr. Zhanfei Liu of DROPPS also gave a presentation on Petroleum Hydrocarbon Analysis to the responders. In hopes to further continue to bridge the gap between response and science, Sarah Cosgrove and Lalitha Asirvadam of DROPPS have volunteered to participate in future workgroups (trainings, workshops). We hope to better understand the response process and to build on our relationship with the South Texas response community in order to tackle oil spills holistically.
